Sump Pump Installation & Repair

Zenco Plumbing · Northern Michigan

Michigan basements and crawl spaces are no strangers to water intrusion. Spring snowmelt, heavy summer rains, and high water tables in low-lying areas can all threaten your foundation. A properly installed and maintained sump pump is one of the most practical investments a Michigan homeowner can make — and when it fails, you usually find out at the worst possible moment.

Why Sump Pumps Matter in Northern Michigan

The spring thaw in Northern Michigan can push a lot of water into the ground quickly — especially in years with heavy snowpack. Combine that with clay-heavy soils that don't drain well, and many basements are at risk every year from April through June. If your home doesn't have a sump pump, or if your current system is aging, now is the time to address it — not after you've already got standing water.

Signs Your Sump Pump Needs Attention

  • Pump runs constantly or cycles on and off rapidly
  • Visible rust or corrosion on the pump body
  • Strange noises — grinding, rattling, or humming without pumping
  • Pump is more than 7–10 years old
  • Water in the pit but pump isn't activating
  • The pump runs but water isn't being discharged

Installation

If you're installing a sump pump for the first time, we'll assess your basement, determine the best pit location, and install a properly sized submersible pump with a reliable float switch. We also make sure the discharge line is routed correctly — away from the foundation and draining to an appropriate location. An improperly routed discharge line is one of the most common problems we see on DIY installs.

Battery Backup Systems

Your sump pump runs on electricity — which means when a storm knocks out the power (exactly when you need it most), a standard pump is useless. A battery backup system keeps your pump running through power outages for hours. We strongly recommend battery backup for any finished basement or home in a flood-prone area. We can install backup systems as part of a new installation or add one to an existing setup.

We service all major sump pump brands and carry replacement units for same-day installs. Whether you need a brand-new system or a quick repair on your existing pump, Zenco Plumbing has you covered.

Don't wait for a flooded basement.
